Big Papi’s Cocina, Coolangatta
Despite only opening a few weeks ago, this Latin American bar and restaurant has become a fast favourite among Coolangattans. The brainchild of chef Kevin Fredes, every dish is a celebration of his Latin roots – from the cheesy choclo (corn) through to the enormous paellas.
Blessing of the Sun, Mermaid Beach
Since opening in mid-April, Blessing of the Sun has dished up low-key yet delicious meals to Mermaid locals and visitors. Owner and head chef Kohta fries, stirs and bakes his passion for cooking into every bite. We’ve been loving seeing his dream come to life.
Black Dingo Café, Coolangatta
When the iconic Café Dbar closed a few years ago, the Gold Coast watched with bated breath to see what else would pop up at the point. In April, the wait was over. Located beneath the iconic lighthouse, this might just be the best café for whale watching on the Gold Coast.
Benny’s American Burger, Surfers Paradise
Finally, the Gold Coast has it’s own Benny’s! Beloved in Adelaide, Melbourne and Brisbane, the America-inspired burger joint – known for its messy burgers and fries – officially opened the doors to its Surfers Paradise venue in May.
Holy Ship, Main Beach
It was a long time coming, but patrons agree that when Holy Ship finally opened its doors (or rather, lowered the dock ramp) in May, it was well worth the wait. Serving up fresh seafood and tap beers on converted trawler boats, this is a dining experience like no other.
